Breakfast

At Straven Bed and Breakfast in Edinburgh you have a wide selection of breakfast items. We are delighted to have achieved Visit Scotland’s Taste Our Best accreditation as recognition of our sourcing policy and the quality food and drink we provide.
There are a selection of starters including dried and fresh fruits, cereals, home made yoghurt, juices, etc. Toast is served with homemade preserves.
There is the option of traditional Scots porridge made with organic oats served with a swirl of cream to start. Or perhaps try a delicious Bircher made with soaked oats and topped with dried cranberries and seeds or a ‘yoghurt sundae’ which is homemade Greek style yoghurt on mixed berries topped with granola.
The main breakfast menu includes:
- A full cooked Scottish Breakfast with egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, tattie scone, tomato and mushroom
- Boiled eggs
- Croissant and pastry served with cheese
- Belgian waffle and fresh fruit and honey
- Menemen (Turkish style scrambled eggs) and feta cheese served with toast
- Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon served on a toasted bagel
- Shakshuka, eggs poached in tomato sauce with vegetables and spices
- Rice Vermicelli Upma, a South Indian breakfast dish with spicy rice noodles, peas and onions
Our sausages and black pudding come from Findlay’s Butchers in Portobello. They are a family run Butchers who are still independently owned and have been running since 1974. The pork for the black pudding and sausages is selected from Hillfoot Farm in Hawick that rears free range animals.
Straven uses Scottish butter and milk for all uses and Scottish free range eggs.
Straven makes its own preserves. The oranges are not locally grown! However the berries are Scottish strawberries and in a good year we can add some of our homegrown raspberries or blueberries!
Please note, we are pleased to cater for special diets such as vegan or gluten free on request. Please advise at time of booking as we make and buy in specially.
