Directions
We are 3 Brunstane Road NORTH, EH15 2DL (there is also a Brunstane Rd and a Brunstane Rd South, both going up the hill away from the sea- we are the street right beside the beach! The others are not guesthouses. We have a large sign outside so you will know when you have arrived!!)
There is an excellent and frequent public transport facility to easily transport you from city centre to the corner of our street and a shuttle coach service and tram service operates from Airport to City Centre. We have regular buses travelling to and from us to the city centre on Princes street. Both the Lothian 19 and Lothian 26 will go to Princes street. The directions below advise of the 26 service as this is slightly faster, more frequent and with more convenient stops from the train station. Please find the detailed guide on how to reach us below
Arriving Edinburgh by Train:
Come out of Waverley Station following signs for the Princes Street Exit. You can catch the 26 bus from across the road from Waverley station on Princes Street. The bus will deposit you at Joppa, outside Portobello and Joppa Parish church just at the corner of our street The bus stop is announced as Brunstane Rd North (our street so you can’t go wrong!!). The service has an eight minute frequency during the day and remains regular into the evening and will whisk you from city centre to our street in a mere twenty five minutes (although at peek times traffic slows the travel). Bus fares can be paid by contactless Visa or Mastercard payment. Alternatively you can pay by correct change in cash (£2 single fare £5 day ticket) A taxi from city centre to our door is about thirteen pounds. Alternatively you can continue your train journey and connect to the Tweedbank rail service at Waverley. This has about 30 minute frequency. The first stop on the journey is Brunstane station; alight here. Come out of the station and turn left. Walk downhill over Brunstane Rd south, straight down over Brunstane Rd and cross straight towards the beach to Brunstane Rd North where we are. Its a straight line walk of about 1/2 mile.
From the airport by bus:
The Airlink bus runs every 10 minutes into the city centre and takes just over 20 minutes to get there. This costs £5.50 per adult for a single fare or £8 for an open return. All these tickets are payable on the bus which can be bought by cash or contactless payment. From the city centre you can get the bus to Straven (as above). The fare is £2 per adult single fare (correct change required if paying in cash. Alternatively contactless payment by Visa or Mastercard by each individual) The number 26 bus from Princes Street is every 10 minutes and it announces our stop when you are here – look out for Brunstane rd north stop – you can’t go wrong!
From the airport by tram and bus:
Alternatively there is the airport tram service which runs every 7 minutes between 7am and 7pm (10 minutes service early morning and late evenings) and takes 36 minutes to York Place. This costs £6.50 for a single fare or £9 for an open return or £10 for a network day ticket to include bus travel in the city and the tram to / from the airport. You can buy the ticket by cash or card payment at the airport tram stop. Alight at Princes Street, continue along Princes Street ib the direction of travel the tram was making unti you are at the bus stop opposite Waverley train station. The fare is £2 per adult single fare on the 26 bus (correct change required if paying in cash. Alternatively contactless payment by Visa or Mastercard by each individual) It announces our stop when you are here – look out for Brunstane Rd North stop – you can’t go wrong!
You can get a taxi from the airport directly to us. They cost about £42 if you are getting them at the airport – although they are metred so an exact fare can’t be given.
By car:

Approaching Edinburgh on the A1 go straight through first roundabout coming into Edinburgh (with Asda store on left – signed “Portobello”). At the next traffic lights turn right (Signed “Joppa” ). Drive down Milton Rd East until you get to the end of the road at traffic lights, turn sharp left a these lights. Drive along this road until just past the 20 miles an hour sign and then turn right onto Brunstane Rd North at Portobello Parish Church. We are on the left just after the church. You may find that your sat nav tries to take you down Brunstane Rd to access Brunstane Rd North. However Brunstane Rd is now closed to through traffic. Please follow these directions!
Approaching Edinburgh by a route other than the A1 proceed East on the South city bypass (A720) all the way to the Old Craighall junction where you take the turnoff left for Edinburgh East and North and thereafter follow instructions as for the A1.
We have no private parking, but our street has no parking restrictions so you can park on our street or on one closeby as there are no allocated spaces. It can be busy during the day at height of season as Portobello is a popular destination.
