Local Restaurants

We are so fortunate in Portobello to have a great range of dining options within walking distance. At peak times, in the height of season and generally at weekends it is best to make reservations. Remember our local dining will not do sit-in orders much later than 9pm.

 One of our favourites is a small Spanish tapas restaurant on the high street. Run by a Spanish family it is casual dining with good food and coffee and we highly recommend the Sangria, Malvarosa

We also really enjoy Guild of Foresters. This friendly bar is at the far end of the high street from us and does good food, generous portions and has a fun outdoor eating sheltered section. Also nice to go for a drink and sometimes will have live music on.

For a Fish and Chips by the seaside there is St Andrews on the High street which offers take away and sit in dining.

There are a good range of dining options overlooking the sea within walking distance:

The Espy is a bar within 10 minutes walk on the beach where you can go for a drink or meals.

The Boathouse is at the end of the prom and has a large outdoor terrace which is sheltered and also does occassional live music.

Miros is a bistro with a good range of home baking and iecreams on the prom.

Joppa Rocks is a seafood restaurant which also offers takeaways and Italian gelato

And there is a more formal dining Indian restaurant which does a great range of delicious Indian food. The Bonoful.

We also have a range of cafes locally where you can go in for coffee and cake or light bites. There is Passeys and the Beachhouse (great scones) as well as Tanifiki (for the coffee connoisseur)

In the city centre there are the more restaurants per head of population than any other city in Europe (so I am told) and the choice makes it feel like that. Many use the Open Table service to take reservations and this can be a good way to see details, menus and get ideas.
